Handkerchiefs
A handkerchief is an old tradition that will prove
handy on your wedding day. Imagine your fiancé declaring his love
as the two of you exchange your vows. Now imagine yourself holding a rolled
up tissue to dab at the tears! |

A handkerchief not only represents understated elegance, but it can also be
your ‘something old, something new, something borrowed,
something
blue. |
Something Old/Something Borrowed: perhaps your mother
or grandmother has a special handkerchief that she can lend you for your
wedding day. |
Something New/Something Blue: purchase a new hanky for
the wedding day. Many styles have a touch of blue. Consider personalizing
the hanky blue thread! |
After the wedding, store the hanky in an acid-free
paper, acid-free box. You don't want the box to have a cellophane window
because it can cause discoloring of your hanky over time. The handkerchief
can then be passed on to future generations on their wedding day and/or
converted into a baby’s bonnet. Several wedding handkerchiefs come with easy
instructions on how to convert into a bonnet or follow instructions on
ehow.com. If done correctly, the
converted bonnet can be converted back into a handkerchief on your child’s
wedding day! |

Many handkerchiefs are available for family members and make a great gift. A
beautiful stitching of “Dad", “Mother” or “Grandmother” may be embroidered
on the hanky and come with a pre-printed card featuring a heart-felt poem.
Want to create your own special touch? Embroider a name, date and/or special
wishes onto the hanky. This creates a truly personal touch that will be
cherished always. |
