Reception Card Boxes

Often a forgotten item, although an important accessory,
is the
card box (or card holder) It offers a secure place for guests to leave
their greeting cards. After the wedding, it is a great place to store small
tokens from your wedding day. |

Card holders are typically placed on a welcome table as
guests enter the reception site. Many brides decorate this table with flower
arrangements, rose petals, place cards or photos of the couple. Be sure to
include the guest book or signature frame/platter here so that guests can
sign in as they drop the card off.

| Card holders are typically offered in simple, traditional colors like
white and ivory. Another trend are the variety of wire holders. The
shapes include birdcage, gazebo and square. All these designs work with any
color scheme or wedding theme. You can embellish or decorate the box or area
around the box to compliment your own style and wedding decor. |

Many brides ask if card holders come with a lock. This
feature was available on older styles, but is no longer offered on holders.
The manufacturers logic was "Who needs a lock when someone can pick up the
entire holder?" Solution: Most guests drop off cards as they enter the
reception, so ask your coordinator to lock the holder and cards in his/her
office or a safe after the guests are seated. You may also consider asking a
close family member or friend to take cards out of the holder and
place in a safe so that the box always remains available for guests to drop
off cards. Many hotels have safes available which gives only you - or your
close family member/friend access. |

A great alternative to a large card holder is a money
bag. If your culture is to have guests stop by the head table to
congratulate you, you can have the bag available for the guest to slip the
card inside as he/she gives you well wishes. A money bag is also great for
the money dance! In the money dance, guests make an offering for the
opportunity to dance with the bride or groom. It is a way of wishing good
fortune to the newlyweds as well as helping them out financially.

Another useful alternative for a card holder is to use
a basket. The only downfall is that guests, servers and other walker-bys can
see what’s inside. Leaving items out and unattended could be at risk. |
